Three days are not enough to know Medellín. They are enough to grow fond of it. This route starts from the guide the hotel published for travelers, with one change: we took out the rush. Each day has a clear focus and room to rest.

Before you start

Where you stay changes the trip. Laureles–Estadio is well connected by metro, has real neighborhood life, and quiet nights. From Bruma Verde, at Carrera 67 #48D-147, the Line B stations are close by.

Day 1: downtown and Comuna 13

Start easy and take the metro downtown. The hotel’s guide suggests leaving from Estadio station. Plaza Botero holds the bronze sculptures Fernando Botero gave to the city; the hotel’s guide counts 23. Beside it is the Museo de Antioquia, and across from it, the Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe. Do not try to see everything. Pick one museum, then sit in the square for a while.

After lunch, Comuna 13. Murals, hip hop, open-air escalators, and a story of transformation that makes more sense with someone from the neighborhood. The hotel’s guide puts it this way: walking it alone is not the same as walking it with someone who grew up there. Bruma Verde can arrange the walk with local guides.

In the evening, head back to Laureles. Eat nearby, take a short walk, and end with a coffee from the Coffee Corner.

Day 2: Guatapé and the Piedra del Peñol

This is the long day. According to the hotel’s guide, Guatapé is roughly two hours from Medellín. That is where you will find the Piedra del Peñol, which the guide describes as almost 200 meters tall with 740 steps, about a 20-minute climb. From the top, the reservoir opens into islands and arms of water.

Below lies the town of Guatapé and its colorful zócalos. Have an unhurried lunch and walk the streets. According to the hotel’s guide, the full-day trip includes transport, a guide, and the return; the team confirms the rest on WhatsApp. That night, nothing else. A shower, then bed.

Day 3: coffee, nature, and the neighborhood

The hotel’s guide suggests the Coffee Tour for the morning of the third day: a visit to coffee farms to see the whole process, from plant to cup. It is a gentle way to understand why coffee matters so much in this region.

If you would rather stay in town, there is a green alternative. Near Universidad station on Line A are the Jardín Botánico, with its Orquideorama, and Parque Explora, an interactive science museum. The hotel’s guide singles out Explora’s freshwater aquarium.

Save the afternoon for Laureles: a park, a bakery, a walk along the circular streets. It is a simple farewell and perhaps the one you will remember most.

Practical notes

  • Weather: according to the hotel’s guide, temperatures range from 18 °C to 28 °C all year. Bring light layers and something for the rain.
  • Season: the hotel’s guide names December–January and July–August as the drier months.
  • Events: the Feria de las Flores takes place in August, with the silleteros parade.
  • Getting around: the metro covers much of the city. For days outside it, coordinate with the team.

Three days, three rhythms. And if you have time left over, spend it on the hardest thing of all: doing nothing.
